Every year, dozens of organisations across Africa work tirelessly to unlock the potential of crops that science and farming communities know can transform food security, nutrition, and climate resilience. Yet too many of those projects remain underfunded, underscaled, and unknown beyond their immediate regions. The Crop Trust Power of Diversity Grants 2026 is designed to change that.
Table Of Content
Now open for applications, the Power of Diversity Grants is a targeted funding initiative from the Crop Trust, one of the world’s most respected agricultural biodiversity institutions. The programme channels dedicated resources into organisations strengthening agricultural value chains for underutilised but highly nutritious and climate-resilient crops, often referred to as opportunity crops, across Africa and beyond.
The deadline is 3 July 2026. The window is closing. Do not wait for perfect.
⚠️ Important: The Power of Diversity Grants is a project grant initiative, not a loan or equity investment. Funded organisations receive project support with no obligation to repay or surrender equity.

Who Is This Grant For?
The programme is open to organisations with strong technical capacity and demonstrated experience in agricultural development and food systems transformation. Eligible countries include Nigeria and other selected countries across Africa.
For agricultural organisations and agribusinesses, the Power of Diversity Grants is particularly relevant if your work focuses on any of the following areas:
- Seed Systems and Crop Productivity Improvement
- Post-Harvest Handling and Processing
- Market Access and Value Chain Development
- Consumer Awareness and Demand Building for Underutilised Crops
- Integration of Crop Diversity into National Agricultural Systems
- Food Security and Nutrition Programmes
- Climate-Resilient Agricultural Solutions
What Is on the Table?
The Power of Diversity Grants 2026 provides project funding specifically directed at strengthening agricultural value chains for underutilised crops that hold enormous potential but continue to receive a fraction of the investment flowing to staple commodity crops.
Funded projects are expected to deliver measurable impact across one or more of the programme’s five focus areas: improving seed systems and productivity, strengthening post-harvest handling and processing, expanding market access, increasing consumer awareness and demand, and integrating crop diversity into national agricultural frameworks.
Beyond the funding, supported organisations gain association with the Crop Trust’s global network and its decades of expertise in agricultural biodiversity, food systems, and international crop research partnerships.
What Makes This Grant Stand Out?
Firstly, the Power of Diversity Grants specifically targets opportunity crops, a category of agricultural investment that is chronically underfunded relative to its potential for impact on nutrition, food security, and climate resilience across Africa.
Secondly, the programme is not simply about production. It takes a whole-value-chain approach, supporting everything from seed systems at the farm level through to market access, consumer demand building, and national policy integration.
Thirdly, by focusing on organisations with demonstrated technical capacity and experience, the Crop Trust is investing in partners who can deliver real, measurable outcomes, not just plans and proposals.
As the global agricultural community increasingly recognises, the crops that have sustained African farming communities for generations are precisely the crops that climate science is now identifying as the most resilient and nutritionally valuable for the future. The Power of Diversity Grants is putting resources behind that recognition.
How to Apply
Applications are submitted directly through the Crop Trust’s official platform before the 3 July 2026 deadline. The strongest applications will demonstrate clear technical capacity, a well-defined project scope across one or more of the programme’s focus areas, evidence of prior experience in agricultural development or food systems work, and a compelling case for the impact your project will generate for farming communities and food systems in your target region.
