Youth unemployment and underinvestment in agriculture remain two of the most persistent structural challenges facing Nigeria’s economy. Yet right now, a powerful initiative is directly addressing both at the same time. The Farmers for the Future (F4F) Grant, a flagship agricultural entrepreneurship programme sponsored by the British American Tobacco Nigeria Foundation (BATNF) in partnership with NYSC and implemented by New Nigeria Foundation, is currently offering serving NYSC members the opportunity to access equity-free capital, mentorship, and long-term business support to scale viable agribusiness ventures.

With a total prize pool of NGN 10 million distributed across six finalists, the programme is consequently one of the most significant youth-focused agribusiness grants available to young Nigerians today. Furthermore, beyond the funding, winners gain access to a structured mentorship programme, a powerful alumni network, and linkages to financial institutions for follow-on financing that can accelerate their businesses well beyond the competition itself.
If you are a serving NYSC member with a viable agricultural business idea and the ambition to build something meaningful, this programme was designed specifically for you.

What Is the Farmers for the Future Programme?
The Farmers for the Future Grant is an agricultural entrepreneurship initiative developed and sponsored by BATNF as part of its drive to encourage and support Nigerian youth in building sustainable, commercially viable agribusinesses. The programme is targeted specifically at currently serving NYSC members, recognising the unique position that corps members occupy as educated, mobile young Nigerians who can bring fresh ideas and energy into the agricultural sector across the country.
The programme’s core objectives are clear and directly relevant to Nigeria’s development priorities. It exists to make agribusiness genuinely attractive to young people, to reduce youth unemployment through enterprise creation, to drive meaningful youth engagement in agriculture, and to train and empower participants with the practical agro-business knowledge and support they need to succeed as agricultural entrepreneurs.

How Much Funding Is Available?
The Farmers for the Future programme offers a total grant pool of NGN 10 million distributed across the top six finalists in the following structure:
The 1st Prize winner receives an equity-free grant of NGN 3,000,000. Two 2nd Prize winners each receive NGN 2,000,000. Three 3rd Prize winners each receive NGN 1,000,000. All grants are equity-free, meaning winners receive funding with no obligation to repay or surrender any ownership stake in their business.
Additionally, all six winners receive linkage to financial institutions and investors for follow-on financing and credit facilities beyond the grant itself, as well as dedicated technical support to help them establish and grow their agribusiness operations.
How Does the Programme Work?
The Farmers for the Future competition runs through four structured stages that progressively identify and support the strongest agribusiness ideas among applicants.
The process begins with an online application through the official F4F portal, where applicants submit their agribusiness idea and supporting information. From the pool of applicants, 20 selected businesses are then invited to participate in an intensive virtual bootcamp where they refine their business thesis and build a compelling pitch for the next stage.
Following the bootcamp, the top 10 businesses advance to a live pitch event where they present before a panel of expert judges and investors. Six winners are consequently selected from this final pitch stage and go on to receive their grants, mentorship, and full programme support.
Winners furthermore benefit from ongoing mentorship under seasoned entrepreneurs and agricultural experts, participation in partner-driven training programmes, support with business registration and legal and regulatory requirements, and full membership of the F4F alumni network with exclusive access to expert guidance and insider opportunities.
Why This Programme Matters for Nigeria’s Agricultural Future
Nigeria’s agricultural sector holds enormous untapped potential. With some of the most fertile land on the continent, a large and young population, and growing domestic and export demand for agricultural commodities and processed food products, the conditions for a genuine agricultural entrepreneurship boom are in place. What has consistently been missing, however, is structured access to capital, knowledge, and networks for the young people most capable of driving that transformation.
The Farmers for the Future programme is consequently filling a critical gap by targeting NYSC members, a cohort of educated young Nigerians who are already deployed across the country and are therefore uniquely positioned to identify and act on agricultural opportunities in the communities where they serve. Moreover, by combining equity-free grants with mentorship, training, alumni membership, and follow-on financing linkages, F4F creates a comprehensive support ecosystem rather than simply handing out money and stepping back.
For Nigerian youth with the drive, the idea, and the commitment to build something meaningful in agriculture, this programme therefore represents one of the most complete and accessible opportunities currently available in the country.
