For women entrepreneurs building innovative, high-growth ventures across Africa, one of the continent’s most respected entrepreneurship platforms has opened its doors for 2026. The Africa Women Innovation & Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF) has announced that applications are now open for the Pitch n Grow 2026 Competition, a flagship initiative designed to identify, support, and showcase women founders driving technology-led solutions to Africa’s most pressing challenges.
Table Of Content
Under this year’s theme, “Deep Roots. Digital Futures,” the competition celebrates women entrepreneurs who are combining innovation with sustainable impact. Furthermore, the competition’s broad sectoral scope, spanning artificial intelligence, agritech, healthtech, clean energy, and beyond, means that women founders across the full spectrum of frontier and emerging technologies have a genuine opportunity to be recognised and supported.
The application deadline is 20 July 2026, giving eligible women entrepreneurs a defined but limited window to prepare strong applications. However, the most competitive pitches take time to refine, and consequently, the time to begin preparing is now.
What Is the AWIEF Pitch n Grow Competition?
Pitch n Grow is one of Africa’s leading platforms for women entrepreneurs building innovative, high-growth ventures. The competition programme targets women-led businesses that are leveraging technology to solve real challenges across the continent, while also building commercially sustainable and scalable operations.
AWIEF itself is a pan-African organisation dedicated to advancing women’s entrepreneurship and economic empowerment, and consequently brings not only visibility but also a deep network of investors, industry leaders, and development partners to every cohort it supports. Being selected as a Pitch n Grow finalist therefore opens doors well beyond the competition itself, positioning founders as credible, continentally recognised actors in Africa’s innovation ecosystem.
Which Sectors Does the Competition Cover?
The AWIEF Pitch n Grow 2026 Competition covers a deliberately wide range of frontier and emerging technology sectors, reflecting the diverse ways in which women founders are reshaping Africa’s innovation landscape. Eligible sectors include:
Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning ventures applying AI-driven tools to solve operational, social, or economic challenges across African markets.
AgriTech solutions that are modernising farming, improving smallholder productivity, or strengthening agricultural value chains.
HealthTech innovations expanding access to quality healthcare, diagnostics, and patient support across underserved communities.
Clean Energy ventures advancing access to reliable, sustainable power solutions for households and businesses.
FinTech platforms improving financial inclusion, payments, credit access, or savings tools for individuals and small businesses.
EdTech solutions strengthening access to quality education and skills development across the continent.
Cybersecurity ventures protecting individuals, businesses, and institutions in an increasingly digital economy.
Water Technology innovations improving access to clean water and efficient water management systems.
Circular Economy businesses building sustainable, waste-reducing models across production and consumption cycles.
Other Frontier and Emerging Technologies that do not fit neatly into the categories above but demonstrate genuine innovation and impact potential.
What Do Selected Entrepreneurs Receive?
Selected entrepreneurs benefit from a comprehensive support package designed to accelerate genuine business growth, rather than offering visibility alone. Benefits include:
Expert-Led Business Development Bootcamps that sharpen strategy, operations, and growth planning for selected founders.
Mentorship from Industry Leaders and Investors that connects founders with experienced professionals who can guide critical business decisions.
Exposure to Investors, Partners, and Media that expands visibility and opens doors to future funding and partnership opportunities.
The Opportunity to Pitch Live at the AWIEF 2026 Conference in Cape Town, placing finalists directly in front of a continental audience of investors and industry stakeholders.
Travel and Accommodation Support for Finalists, ensuring that logistical barriers do not prevent strong founders from participating fully.
Cash Prizes and Recognition Across the AWIEF Network, providing both immediate capital and longer-term credibility within Africa’s entrepreneurship ecosystem.
Who Should Apply?
Applicants must be women entrepreneurs leading businesses that demonstrate genuine innovation and the use of technology to address pressing challenges. The competition specifically prioritises ventures that combine commercial viability with measurable, sustainable impact.
The competition is therefore particularly well-suited for the following types of founders:
Women-led startups that have moved beyond the idea stage and are actively deploying technology-driven products or services. Founders building ventures across AI, agritech, healthtech, clean energy, fintech, edtech, cybersecurity, water technology, or the circular economy. Entrepreneurs seeking structured mentorship and investor access to scale an already-validated business model. Women leading ventures with a clear growth trajectory who are ready to engage with bootcamps, mentors, and a continental investor audience.
Why This Competition Matters for Africa’s Entrepreneurship Landscape
Access to capital, mentorship, and investor networks remains one of the most persistent barriers facing women entrepreneurs across Africa, despite the continent’s growing recognition as a hub of frontier innovation. The AWIEF Pitch n Grow Competition addresses this gap directly, by combining structured capacity building with genuine investor and media exposure.
The competition’s emphasis on this year’s theme, “Deep Roots. Digital Futures,” further reflects an understanding that the most resilient innovation is one that remains grounded in local context and community needs, while still pushing forward with digital and technological solutions. Consequently, founders who can clearly articulate both the local relevance and the scalable potential of their ventures will be especially well positioned in this year’s cohort.
Moreover, the opportunity to pitch live at the AWIEF 2026 Conference in Cape Town, alongside travel and accommodation support for finalists, removes a significant barrier that often prevents promising founders from accessing continental platforms. This dimension of the competition therefore opens meaningful opportunities for women entrepreneurs who may not otherwise have the resources to participate in high-level investor and industry conversations.
How to Apply
Interested women entrepreneurs are encouraged to prepare a clear and compelling overview of their venture, including its innovation, technology use, growth trajectory, and impact, before submitting an application.
Strong applications will consequently demonstrate a clearly defined business model, evidence of traction or validation, a compelling growth story, and a clear articulation of how technology is being used to solve a genuine challenge.
The application deadline is 20 July 2026. Begin early, refine the pitch, and apply with confidence.
